Sikandar Box Office Collection Day 9: Second Monday Result Of Salman Khan's Film

Salman Khan's Sikandar didn't turn out his lucky charm at the box office as the film continues to struggle to score big numbers. The film, which released on March 30, minted Rs 1.75 crore on Monday (April 7), taking the total to Rs 104.25 crore. Sikandar crossed the Rs 100 crore mark on 8th day of its release.

Salman Khan's film opened its box office collection with Rs 26 crore. On Eid, it minted Rs 29 crore. After Eid, the film saw a huge slump in its earnings on April 1, minting only Rs 19.5 crore. The downward trend continued over the weekdays. On Friday (April 4), the film earned Rs 3.5 crore, showing a 41.67 % slump at the box office collection.

Over the last weekend, Sikandar did slightly better in comparison with its weekdays' business. But it was not enough to pull off a film, made on a budget of Rs 200 crore.

The poor performances of big-budget Hindi films in theatres initiated a conversation around the "dying" state of Bollywood. Needless to say, Salman Khan's Sikandar would add more fuel to the ongoing chatter. Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2, which smashed records after records in December 2024, earned Rs 27 crore (Hindi) on 9th day of its release.

The numbers of Pushpa 2 were impacted after Allu Arjun was arrested  in connection with a stampede that occurred during the premiere of his film at the Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad on December 4. However, Pushpa 2 is way ahead of Sikandar from the beginning.

Sikandar marked Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna's first collaboration on screen. The film also marked Salman Khan's first project with AR Murugadoss, who previously directed Aamir Khan in the 2008 blockbuster Ghajini.

Sikandar marks the first-ever on-screen pairing of Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna. Interestingly, the duo shares a significant 31-year age gap.

Addressing the age difference at the trailer launch event, Salman Khan said with his trademark wit, “They say there is a 31-year difference between the heroine and me. If the heroine doesn't have any problem or the heroine's father doesn't have any problem, then why do you have a problem?" His punchline had the entire press room bursting into laughter.

The actor didn't stop there. "And when she (Rashmika) will get married and have a daughter and then she becomes a big star then also we will work (together). We will get the mother (Rashmika)'s permission for sure," Salman added.

In addition to the leading duo, Sikandar also features Sathyaraj, Kajal Aggarwal, Sharman Joshi and Prateik Babbar in important roles.

The project has been produced by Sajid Nadiadwala's Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.

When Jaya Bcahchan turns back, a man - likely accompanying the elderly woman - tries to capture the two on his camera-phone. When the woman extends her hand to handshake, Jaya Bachchan pushes the woman's hand aside and calls out the man for clicking photo on such occasion.

One user commented, "I don't think she was trying to meet but was trying to click a photo with Jaya. Funeral isn't the right place to click pics. Jaya can also talk politely." Another fan wrote, "I'm sorry but why on earth would you think that a funeral is an appropriate place to ask for photos?" Another fan wrote, "People trying to click pics in prayer meet should be kicked out. This time, Jaya is right."

Laapataa Ladies Writer Biplab Goswami Denies Plagiarism Allegations Amid Comparisons With Arabic Film Burqa City: "Completely Untrue"

Laapataa Ladies recently came under fire after a video of an Arabic short film, titled Burqa City, went viral on social media. The clip highlighted striking similarities between Kiran Rao's directorial and Burqa City, sparking speculation of plagiarism.

Now, Laapataa Ladies writer Biplab Goswami has responded to the controversy, asserting that his story is “100% original.” In a statement shared on Instagram, Biplab clarified that he had registered the synopsis of Laapataa Ladies with the Screenwriters Association back in 2014, before the Arabic film was even made.

He wrote, "The screenplay for Laapataa Ladies was developed extensively over many years. I first registered the film's detailed synopsis, outlining the entire story with the working title ‘Two Brides', with the Screenwriters Association on July 3, 2014."

"Even within this registered synopsis, there is a scene that clearly describes the groom bringing home the wrong bride and being shocked and stricken upon realising his mistake because of the veil, along with the rest of his family. This is where the story takes off," he added.

Biplab Goswami further mentioned that he had registered the feature-length script with the Screenwriters Association in 2018 and that it went on to win the runner-up award at the Cinestaan Storytellers Competition.

Addressing the use of veils and disguises in Laapataa Ladies, Biplab said, "The concept of veils and disguises resulting in mistaken identities is a classical form of storytelling used for centuries by writers such as William Shakespeare, Alexandre Dumas and Rabindranath Tagore.”

The writer claimed that the story, dialogues, characters, and scenes in Laapataa Ladies stem from years of research and “honest reflection,” along with a deep understanding of the nuances of “gender discrimination, inequality, rural power dynamics and male chauvinism.”

He signed off with the words, “Our story, characters, and dialogues are 100% original. Any allegations of plagiarism are completely untrue. These allegations not just undermine my efforts as a writer, but also the tireless efforts of the entire filmmaking team.”

Backing Biplab Goswami's claim, director Kiran Rao reshared his statement on her Instagram stories.

Laapataa Ladies features Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel and Sparsh Shrivastava in lead roles. The film is bankrolled by Aamir Khan and under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions.

Bats Avoid Mid-Air Crashes by Adjusting Their Echolocation During Flight

Bats fly out of caves in large numbers every night. Even though they fly in huge numbers they do not collide. Scientists have observed this for years. The ability of bats to navigate without crashing remains an area of study. Many species rely on echolocation to sense their surroundings. They emit calls and listen to echoes. When many bats use echolocation at the same time, interference should occur. Scientists refer to this issue as jamming. This raises the question of why bats do not collide when leaving caves in large groups.

How Bats Navigate Without Collisions

According to a study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers from Tel Aviv University examined greater mouse-tailed bats in Israel's Hula Valley. The study was conducted over two years. Small tracking devices were placed on multiple bats. These trackers recorded their locations and sounds. Some of these devices contained ultrasonic microphones. The mics were there to capture the auditory scene. Since bats were tagged outside the cave, data at the opening of the cave was not available. A computational model developed by Omer Mazar was used to simulate the missing data. This model recreated the entire sequence of bat emergence.

Findings on Echolocation Adjustments

As per the findings, 94 percent of echolocations were jammed when bats exited the cave. Within five seconds, jamming decreased significantly. Two behavioral adjustments were noted. First, bats moved outward from the dense group while staying in formation. They changed their echolocation strategy. Calls became shorter, weaker, and at a higher frequency. Scientists expected bats to avoid jamming by dispersing. The change in frequency was unexpected.

Reason Behind Echolocation Changes

Omer Mazar, a researcher involved in the study, explained this shift. He stated in an interview with Phys.org that bats prioritise detecting the nearest barrier. In this case, the obstacle is another bat. They did this by changing the method of echolocation. They gather precise information about their immediate surroundings. This reduces the risk of collisions
