Elon Musk Takes Product and Engineering Chief Role at X, Yaccarino to Lead All Other Divisions

X owner Elon Musk and Chief Executive Linda Yaccarino will both oversee the trust and safety team at the company formerly known as Twitter, the social media concern said on Monday.

X's product and engineering team will report to Musk, while Yaccarino will oversee all other divisions, including human resources, legal, finance, sales and operations, X said.

The trust and safety team, which is responsible for content moderation, has been the focus of some criticism of the platform after Musk acquired the company last October. Researchers have accused X of relaxing content guard rails, leading to a spike in harmful posts. The company has said the majority of content views are of "healthy" posts.

In an email to X employees on Monday, which was shared with Reuters, Yaccarino said the company is searching for a new leader for brand safety and suitability.

The previous head of brand safety, A.J. Brown, who worked on efforts to prevent advertisements from appearing next to unsuitable content, left the company last month.

Yaccarino said in the email that three X leaders will oversee different responsibilities within trust and safety, including law enforcement operations and threat disruptions.

The changes to trust and safety come after Ella Irwin resigned as head of the team in June.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Series May Use Titanium Chassis, Galaxy S24+ Said to Pack Larger Display Than Predecessor

Samsung Galaxy S24 series is said to be in the works as the company's flagship series for 2024. The smartphone family that is expected to include three models —Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra—is expected to go official early next year, but ahead of it, multiple rumours have started floating around the smartphones. Samsung might use new stronger frames instead of aluminium with the Galaxy S24 lineup, according to a tipster. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S24+ is tipped to feature a 6.65-inch display, which is an upgrade over its predecessor, the Galaxy S23+.

Tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce) through a cryptic tweet suggested that Samsung will use titanium frames in the Galaxy S24 series. The previous models feature an aluminium chassis, including the Galaxy S23 lineup. Apple is also expected to build the next flagship phones with a titanium frame. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are rumoured to sport titanium frames.

In another tweet, the tipster claimed that the Galaxy S24+ will have a 6.65-inch screen. If this turns out to be true, this would be a slight upgrade over the 6.6-inch screen of the Galaxy S23+.

The Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra are expected to have codenames Muse 1, Muse 2, and Muse 3, respectively. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is tipped to come with a new EV battery technology to offer improved battery life. It might run on Android 14-based One UI 6.0 with a 144Hz refresh rate display. It is said to be powered by Qualcomm's unannounced Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC and may pack 200-megapixel sensors with improved zooming capabilities.

Samsung's Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra were launched during the company's Galaxy Unpacked event in February this year. The vanilla Galaxy S23's price starts at Rs. 74,999 in India, while Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra have initial price tags of Rs. 94,999 and Rs. 1,34,999 respectively. They run on a custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy SoC.

Bitcoin Fails to Reach $30,000, Ether Marks Eighth Anniversary With Loss

The Bitcoin cryptocurrency reflected small profits on Monday. At the time of writing, the most expensive cryptocurrency was trading at the price point of $29,425 (roughly Rs. 24 lakh). It has been over a week since Bitcoin last traded above the price point of $30,000 (roughly Rs. 24.6 lakh). The market sentiment seems to have assimilated the news about Curve Finance falling victim to an exploit over the weekend. This incident has reportedly put $100 million (roughly Rs. 822 crore) worth of cryptocurrencies at risk.

Ether, as opposed to Bitcoin, registered a small loss of 0.51 percent on Monday. The crypto asset is currently priced $1,870 (roughly Rs. 1.53 lakh). Over the weekend, Ether marked its eighth anniversary. Co-founded by Vitalik Buterin, Gavin Wood, Anthony Di Iorio, and Joseph Lubin — ETH is second to only Bitcoin with a market capitalisation of over $225 billion (roughly Rs. 18,51,365 crore).

Bitcoin and Ether taking different routes often signifies a slow, sideways trading sentiment that is currently prevalent in the market.

Binance Coin, Cardano, Bitcoin Cash, Leo, and Near Protocol recorded minor profits alongside Bitcoin.

Small gains were also recorded by EOS Coin, Bitcoin SV, Neo Coin, and Qtum on Monday.

Loss-making cryptocurrencies, meanwhile, were more in number than profit-making ones.

Tether, Ripple, USD Coin, Dogecoin, Solana, Tron, and Litecoin slipped in prices along with Ether.

Minor value dips were also registered by Polygon, Polkadot, Shiba Inu, Avalanche, Stellar, Chainlink, and Uniswap on Monday.

The overall valuation of the crypto sector stands at $1.18 trillion (roughly Rs. 97,11,105 crore) with a drop of 0.26 percent in the last 24 hours, as per CoinMarketCap.

Industry experts estimate that in the coming days, the crypto sector could see an influx of investors flocking back to digital assets.

“The banking crisis in the US continues to persist. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) has closed down the Kansas Heartland Tri-State Bank. The failure of this bank might be attributed to the impact of rising US interest rates to tackle inflation,” Edul Patel, the CEO of crypto investment firm Mudrex, told Gadgets 360.

The crypto fear and greed index meanwhile, remains in the neutral zone with a score of 50/100; down two points from yesterday.

“Bitcoin, the largest crypto has been consolidating in this range for several weeks, as investors await further clarity on the macroeconomic indicators like inflation. However, there are some positive signs for Bitcoin bulls. Long-term holders (LTHs) are demonstrating a notable absence of selling pressure. Approximately 71 percent of the realised capitalisation of Bitcoin remained unmoved for over six months. This data indicates that LTHs are not rushing to sell their BTC holdings, contributing to the reduced selling pressure in the market,” the CoinDCX research team told Gadgets 360.

Elon Musk Draws Heat From San Francisco Over Giant X Office Logo After Removal of Twitter Sign

A giant, glowing X marks the San Francisco spot where Elon Musk says he plans to keep his company, the messaging platform X, formerly known as Twitter. But city officials and some residents are unhappy with the display.

On Friday, the company erected an "X" logo on the roof of its Market Street headquarters, to the chagrin of neighbours who complained about intrusive lights, and San Francisco's Department of Building Inspection which said it is investigating the structure.

The move followed a post from Musk, the enigmatic billionaire who acquired the company in October for $44 billion (roughly Rs. 3,61,998 crore), announcing the newly named firm would remain in San Francisco despite what he termed the city's recent "doom spiral, with one company after another left or leaving."

Musk, who also is CEO of electric car maker Tesla, moved that company's headquarters from California to Texas in 2021. Keeping X in San Francisco could be a good sign for a city that has struggled to bounce back from tourism and business losses sustained during the pandemic.

Its downtown region is struggling with job cuts in the tech sector, the departure of major retailers, and reduced tourism. Traffic has fallen as more people work from home, while high-profile crime and homelessness have tarnished the city's image.

"Beautiful San Francisco, though others forsake you, we will always be your friend," Musk wrote.

Yet not all San Franciscans are keen for Musk's friendship. Locals over the weekend recorded video of the giant X glowing, pulsing and strobing, with some criticizing its intrusive lights.

X user @itsmefrenchy123 said they would be "LIVID" over the bright logo, imagining it "right across from your bedroom."

"I'm just astounded at the flagrant lack of consideration for anyone ever," wrote X user @DollyMarlowe.

San Francisco's Department of Building Inspection, meanwhile, opened an investigation into the structure, saying it might be in violation of permitting rules.

A BID inspector said in a written report that company representatives denied roof access, twice, to BID officials seeking to inspect the logo. The inspector noted one representative said the sign was temporary.

A BID spokesperson could not immediately be reached on Sunday.

Walmart Buys Out Tiger Global’s Stake in Flipkart for $1.4 Billion: Report

Walmart has paid $1.4 billion (roughly Rs. 11,520 crore) to buy out hedge fund Tiger Global's investment in e-commerce firm Flipkart, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday, citing a letter by the hedge-fund to its investors.

A Walmart spokesperson confirmed the transaction in an emailed response to Reuters but did not comment on financial details of the deal.

The transaction will value the e-commerce firm at $35 billion (roughly Rs. 2,88,010 crore), the WSJ report said.

"We remain confident in the future of Flipkart and are even more positive about the opportunity in India today than when we first invested," the Walmart spokesperson said.

Tiger Global did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.

Earlier this year, the Economics Times reported that private equity firms Accel and Tiger Global, two early backers of Flipkart, were in talks to sell their remaining stake in the company to Walmart.

Tiger Global held about 4 percent of the company, according to the ET report.

Walmart acquired a majority stake of 77 percent in Flipkart for about $16 billion (roughly Rs. 1,31,662 crore) in 2018, and later that year said it could take the company public in four years.

In April last year, Reuters reported that Flipkart had internally raised its IPO valuation target by around a third to $60 billion (roughly Rs. 4,90,000 crore) - $70 billion (roughly Rs. 5,70,00 crore), and plans a US listing in 2023.

Earlier this year, Walmart confirmed that it had already paid the Indian government most of the nearly $1 billion (roughly Rs. 8,300 crore) in tax owed after digital payments company PhonePe, which the US retailer owns through Flipkart, shifted its headquarters from Singapore to India.
