An ex-special ops agent walks into what looks like a restaurant. Every seat is taken. A man stops him at the entrance and says there is no space left. I'll create space, the visitor says coolly and proceeds to mow down the gathering.
That is how Fateh, actor Sonu Sood's writing and directing debut, kicks off. No-nonsense, unabashed, in-your-face, ultra-violent. Take it or lump it. The flurry of bullets and the high body count should leave nobody in any doubt about what the film is out to deliver.
It does deliver what it promises and does so without let. So, leave your seat and head to the exit if you find this level of violence too shocking for comfort. A disclaimer at the outset issues a warning to that effect. It is followed up with another one at the halfway mark: "Brace yourself, you will need this break."
That is about the only breather the film has room for in its unrelenting cycle of violence. Fateh Singh (Sood), a one-man army, makes no bones about letting his deeds do most of the talking.
The film spills more blood in two hours than Pushpa did over its two protracted parts put together. Its animalistic overdrive could put Animal in the shade. And while it is at it, Fateh indulges in more globe-trotting than a Jackie Chan action-adventure.
Fateh has no particular weapon of choice. He uses whatever he can lay his hands on - automatic guns, revolvers, knives, cleavers, axes, hammers, anything that can kill without much ado - and goes on a rampage choreographed by Hollywood action director Lee Whittaker (Pear Harbor, Die Hard, Fast and Furious 5).
The invincible hero's dialogues are curt to the point of being minimalist but the violence he dishes out is attended by no-holds-barred glee. The havoc Fateh wreaks is of the an unabashedly maximalist, take-no-prisoners kind.
Needless to say, there is no dearth of visceral energy in the film. Nor does it lack a social purpose. It is, however, unable to generate much mystery and intrigue. The identity and modus operandi of the bad guys, played with finesse by Naseeruddin Shah and Vijay Raaz, are revealed pretty early in the film, leaving no real scope for any edge-of-the-seat suspense.
The only point of interest revolves around how Fateh will go about the job of dismantling the source of the malware he is out to destroy. What works to the film's advantage, especially in a taut first half, is that it never strays from its blood-splattered course even though Fateh is allowed an occasional emotional moment.
Fateh Singh is asked more than once Tum karte kya ho (what do you do)? Sabko janna hai (Everybody wants to know), he replies. Late in the film, somebody is told with alliterative emphasis: Jaan jayogi toh jaan jayegi (you'll be dead if you get to know).
But don't we have to know what the infallible man is up to? So, here goes. He is on a mission to bring down a network of dangerous cyber criminals who run a fake loan app that targets financially disadvantaged and unsuspecting middle-class folk, hacks into their bank accounts, and robs them of their meagre hard-earned money.
Fateh Singh leaves a trail of countless kills until he reaches the evil mastermind, Raza (Shah), a former Indian spy who now takes orders from nobody. Along the way, the crime-buster has to reckon with another dangerous bloke, Satya Prakash (Raaz), who shows the stuff that he is made of by using a metal chopstick to stab a man to death.
Earlier on, an abandoned single screen movie theatre in Delhi serves as the site of a massacre. The hall houses an illegal call centre supervised by Chadda (Akashdeep Sabir).
When Fateh barges in, the man he is looking for demands that he be left alone because he has a headache that could get worse. The crusader's solution is, expectedly, simple and delivered without so much as a by your leave.
A Punjab villager, unable to repay a loan on which the interest balloons out of control, dies by suicide. The girl who facilitated the loan goes missing. Fateh Singh heads to Delhi and swings into action to find and punish the people behind the online fraud.
The persistent bloodletting that follows - it harks back to the undercover life that Fateh Singh, now a clean-cut supervisor of a dairy farm in a village off Punjab's Moga town, has left behind him - tends to get on one's nerves.
The ruthless killing machine is forced to return to his old ways when Nimrat Kaur (Shiv Jyoti Rajput) disappears without a trace. Somewhere down the line, he tells ethical hacker Khushi Sharma (Jacqueline Fernandez), who has flown down from London to try and get to the bottom of the cybercrime, that his last mission was in San Francisco several years ago.
Now that he is back from self-imposed oblivion, it is clear that he isn't out of touch. Fateh uses a diary to keep notes because, as he says, it cannot be hacked. His past is also imprinted on his face and body in the form of telltale scars.
His style is unfussy, cut and dried, shorn of all that is inessential. Like the lean, mean, sinewy film he is in, he is clinical and economical with his methods and words although all the violence he perpetrates is mounted as short-winded spectacle.
He does not waste a bullet nor let a blow or thrust go begging. His incredible strike rate tends to make his death-dispensing forays a touch predictable.
Every stunt in Fateh, shot by Italian cinematographer Vincenzo Condorelli, is delivered in a single, stunning flash, with one following the other in such quick succession that the mind and the eye struggle to keep pace.
Sonu Sood delivers a no-frills lead performance that is perfectly in sync with the spirit and substance of the film. Naseeruddin Shah, Vijay Raaz and Dibyendu Bhattacharya (as a Delhi police officer detailed to stop Fateh Singh in his tracks) step in to dial down the frenzy Fateh exudes. Jacqueline Fernandez has her moments but most are lost in the din.
Fateh is marked by dizzying momentum if not sustained clarity. It is surprisingly watchable even though some might feel that in the carnage that the film unleashes, cinema dies a thousand deaths. The call is yours.

It has a custom case, design, user interface (UI), charging cable, and a sim ejector tool inspired by Marvel Cinematic Universe's beloved superhero. The handset's back panel sports red, black, and gold elements forming an arc reactor — the fictional power source which powers the Iron Man suit.
Notably, it is the second collaboration between the Xiaomi sub-brand and the US-based entertainment company, following the launch of the Poco F6 Deadpool Limited Edition in India last year.

However, the company plans to change this perception with the Reno 13 series, which includes the Reno 13 and Reno 13 Pro. The 2025 marks the entry of Reno 13 Pro, which promises better design aesthetics, improved performance, pro-grade cameras, and a bunch of AI features that make it an interesting package at this price.

This put the handset in the league of mid-premium phones, which is currently dominated by the likes of OnePlus and iQOO. Oppo has paid special attention to designing its smartphones, especially the Reno series. The newest handset from the brand offers a sleek form factor with a thickness of 7.55 mm and is also one of the lightest phones available in the market, weighing 195 grams. This is also the first time the company has used an aerospace-grade aluminium frame, which is a good upgrade over its predecessors.

The handset is available in two colour options. Those who love a subtle and minimalistic look can go for the Graphite Grey. For those who want unique and fresh aesthetics, the Mist Lavender colourway is meant for you. I got the latter for the review, and boy, it sure looks beautiful.
You get a unique butterfly effect on the one-piece sculpted glass rear panel, which shines brilliantly under the sunlight, giving a distinct look and feel. The front panel also comes with a micro-curved screen, which is subtle and does not feel like a knife when you hold it in your hand. The camera module also looks less protruding than the Reno 12 Pro, though it still wobbles when placed on a flat surface. Also, the phone is still slippery, so at the end of the day, you have to tame this beauty under a case.

The volume buttons and power on/off buttons are comfortable to reach and offer a tactile response, which is a good thing. Interestingly, the phone comes with IP66, IP68 and IP69 ratings, which is a rarity in this price segment. This means that you can easily submerge the device underwater at a depth of 2 metres for up to 30 minutes. The company has also gone a step ahead and introduced underwater shooting modes to help you capture photos and videos underwater (more on this in the camera section).

The Oppo Reno 13 Pro 5G has a flat-frame design. However, the company has added curves to the display to improve the experience. The screen is four-sided and micro-curved, giving it an almost bezel-less effect and a better screen-to-body ratio.
With the AMOLED panel and a high resolution of 1.5K, the display is sure to be one of the most interesting panels available in this price segment. However, you get a Full HD resolution by default, which you can change by going to Settings > Display> Screen Resolution. You also get three different colour modes to customise the display to your own taste. These include Natural, Pro, and Vivid.
The handset comes with a 6.83-inch QHD+ four-sided micro-curved AMOLED display.
The Pro mode delivers true-to-source colours, but the Vivid mode makes the colours pop out slightly compared to the Natural. The handset also comes loaded with a dynamic 120Hz screen refresh rate, making the whole scrolling experience smooth. The handset also comes with SGS and Seamless Eye Protection Certificate, which the brand claims offers comfortable viewing for long sessions.
The display offers crisp visuals and vibrant colours. While watching Squid Games Season 2, I noticed that the colours came out to be vibrant, while the blacks were deep. In Fire Force, the phone delivers good colours, and the dynamic range is good. The viewing angles are great, and the outdoor visibility is decent. However, the 1,200nits of peak brightness seems to be a bit underwhelming for bright outdoor usage.
The smartphone offers a vibrant and crisp display, though the peak brightness seems to be an underdog.
So, if you are someone who loves to binge-watch, then you will not be disappointed with the display. I noticed a bug where the colour temperature shifts while changing the volume levels. However, the Oppo spokesperson said the issue will be fixed in an upcoming update.
The device also features an in-display fingerprint sensor, which is fast and reliable. The handset also packs stereo speakers, which deliver good audio output. You can crank the volume up by 300 per cent, though it just results in the sound getting loud and losing its depth.

Like its predecessor, the Oppo Reno 13 Pro 5G comes loaded with a slew of AI features, though most of them are cloud-based, so you need a reliable internet connection for them to work. There is a mix of productivity, and camera-related AI features that make everyday tasks smooth. To start with the productivity tasks, you get the AI Writer, which provides AI-generated captions for social media posts.
The Oppo Reno 13 Pro comes with a bunch of interesting AI features.
Then, there is one of the most useful features, the AI Summary. The feature basically summarises articles, documents, and more in points to help you give you a brief about the topic. This is particularly useful when you are in a meeting or simply want to have a summary of a research article.
Then, there is AI Speak, which reads text on the screen. Another useful one is the AI Recording Summary. This feature summarises and provides a summary of the recorded meeting, interview, or voice notes.
The Reno 13 Pro 5G also borrows some of the camera-centric AI features that are available in the Find X8 series. The most noticeable ones are the AI Reflection Remover, AI Unblur, AI Clarity Enhancer, and AI Eraser 2.0. The AI Reflection Remover removes the reflections when you click photos from one side of a glass. I noticed that it was able to remove most of the reflections from the image, but there were many hits and misses.
The AI Unblur is another interesting feature, but the unblurring was not that effective on most of the bases. The AI Eraser 2.0 removes background distractions. You get three options to choose from, including Smart Lasso, Paint Over, and Remove People. The feature is particularly useful when removing people from the background.
The AI Reimage option in the AI Studio let's reimagine normal photos
Oppo has also made some new additions to the AI Studio, and it now comes with features like AI Portrait, AI Reimage, and AI Motion. I liked the AI Reimage feature that turns your normal photo into a work of art and social media ready. The AI Motion adds some motion to your still images, though you need to follow the guidelines in order for this feature to work, which is a daunting task, to be honest.

However, it is also one of the few interfaces that come equipped with a plethora of bloatware. The number of pre-installed apps seems to have increased from its predecessor, though most of them can be deleted. Then, you have the usual Hot Games and Hot Apps that provide ads for different apps and games. This makes the whole user interface cluttered and sometimes borderline irritating.

Oppo Reno 13 Pro is the first device in India that is powered by the latest MediaTek Dimensity 8350 processor. The chipset provides a slight upgrade over the Dimensity 8300 chipset. The SoC now comes with a new gaming engine known as StarSpeed, which is said to offer better performance compared to the HyperEngine in other Dimensity chipsets. I ran some synthetic benchmarks on this smartphone, and it sure provides some improvement compared to the Reno 12 Pro. You can check it in the table below:

In day-to-day usage, the phone offers a smooth and fluid performance. The phone is responsive and provides a snappy performance. Whether it be scrolling Reels, watching videos on YouTube, or heavy multitasking, you will face no lag or stutter.

The Reno 13 Pro is also able to handle most of the casual and intensive gaming to some extent. I played Call of Duty: Mobile at Very High graphics and maximum frame rates, and throughout the gameplay, I comfortably got 60 fps. While playing Genshin Impact, the phone handled the load efficiently with High Graphis and 30fps graphics settings. However, during long gaming sessions, I noticed the area around the rear camera module getting heated up. This was also noticeable while running Antutu V10 for a prolonged testing period.

The Oppo Reno 13 Pro 5G comes with an almost similar camera setup. You get the same telephoto and ultra-wide-angle lens. However, what is different is the use of a Sony IMX890 primary sensor instead of the Sony LYT-600 present in the Reno 12 Pro. This is a slight upgrade over the previous model.

The handset captures some sharp images in broad daylight with the primary sensor. The photos offered decent contrast and dynamic range. However, you will notice slightly warmer colour tones with the primary sensor, which was quite odd.

The telephoto lens, on the other hand, surprised us during the testing period. The sensor captured better details in broad daylight, and the colours were close to the source in most scenarios. The 3.5x zoom helps capture distant objects without moving them to take perfect shots. The phone also captures some really good portraits at 3.5x zoom.

The ultrawide angle was a letdown, though. The images were a bit soft during the testing and lacked dynamic range.

Coming to the low-light performance, the phone was able to capture some decent photos with minimal noise. The primary camera does a better job of capturing the details in low-light conditions than daylight.

However, I noticed that the processing tends to oversharpen the images in some scenarios, causing them to lose their details. The photos taken with the telephoto lens delivered some good results. However, the ultra-wide-angle lens was also disappointing. Most of the pictures were softly focused, and the image quality was not up to the mark.

Coming to the selfie performance, the handset does a good job of handling skin tones and colours. The portraits came out to be good as well, and the edge detection was good. In low light conditions, the phone also captured some decent selfies, though in cases where the light was low, you could see some grains and noises.

That said, I loved shooting B&W photos with this phone. The shots were well-detailed in almost every scenario.

Another interesting feature that Oppo introduced with its Reno 13 Pro is the new Underwater Mode. All thanks to so many IP ratings, you can now take images and videos underwater. When you turn on this mode, the volume controls are assigned to take photos and videos, while holding the power button will end the model with a few seconds to kick out the water. The images and video captured in this mode came out to be great, and you will enjoy this mode to capture some good images and flaunt them in front of your friends.
Another interesting feature is the AI Livephoto, which works similarly to Apple's Livephotos option. The mode takes 1.5 seconds of video before you hit the shutter button and 1.5 seconds after that. So, you get multiple shots for one photo to select the best one.

The Reno 13 Pro 5G also comes with an improved battery. The brand has added a 5,800mAh battery against the 5,000mAh present in Reno 12 Pro, which is a good upgrade. The phone easily lasted for almost two days with moderate usage. With heavy usage, which includes using the phones to check and reply to emails, watching a few episodes on Netflix, listening to music on the go, mindlessly scrolling on Instagram, and editing photos on the go, you can easily get almost little over a day's battery life.

The phone lasted 26 hours and 10 minutes in the HD battery loop test. The charging speeds are also quite decent. With the 80W fast charger provided by the company, the phone charged 36 percent in 15 minutes, 70 percent in 30 minutes, and 100 percent in 50 minutes.
Oppo Reno 13 Pro 5G Verdict
The Oppo Reno 13 Pro 5G offers some improvement over its predecessor, the Reno 12 Pro. You get fresh design aesthetics and a better-built quality over previous Reno series phones. The display is crisp and offers vibrant colours to make the whole streaming experience delightful. The performance has seen a bigger jump over its predecessor and is now in line with the rest of the competition, if not ahead.

The cameras were a mixed-bag experience during the testing period. On the one hand, you get well-detailed shots, but the shift in colour temperature between different sensors spoils the whole mood. That said, Oppo is working on a fix for this issue and hopefully, in future updates, this issue might get resolved. As far as competition is concerned, the Oppo Reno 13 Pro will have competition with the likes of the OnePlus 13R, iQOO 13 (Review), and more, which offer superior performance.

Mandy Moore, the singer and "This Is Us" actress, wrote on Instagram about the devastating situation in which they are trapped.
"I love you, Altadena. Grateful for my family and pets getting out last night before it was too late (and endless gratitude to friends for taking us in and bringing us clothes and blankets).
Honestly, I'm in shock and feeling numb for all so many have lost, including my family. My children's school is gone. Our favorite restaurants, leveled. So many friends and loved ones have lost everything too. Our community is broken but we will be here to rebuild together. Sending love to all affected and on the front lines trying to get this under control," she wrote.
Emmy-Award winning actor James Woods shared a series of posts on his X handle describing the situation he's caught in.
"To all the wonderful people who've reached out to us, thank you for being so concerned. Just letting you know that we were able to evacuate successfully. I do not know at this moment if our home is still standing, but sadly houses on our little street are not," he wrote in one of his posts.

Star Wars actor Mark Hamill told followers on Instagram that he had fled his Malibu home with his wife and pet dog. He called this fire the "most horrific since '93" in his Instagram post.
Paris Hilton also lost her home in the devastating fire. She wrote a long note on X. An excerpt from her note read, "Heartbroken beyond words. Sitting with my family, watching the news, and seeing our home in Malibu burn to the ground on live TV is something no one should ever have to experience. This home was where we built so many precious memories. It's where Phoenix took his first steps and where we dreamed of building a lifetime of memories with London."

Oscar-winner Jamie Lee Curtis was also forced to evacuate. She wrote on Instagram, "Our beloved neighbourhood is gone. Our home is safe. So many others have lost everything."
The comic actor Steve Guttenberg of the Police Academy series and Three Men and a Baby, has already leapt to aid firefighters by helping to move cars out of the way. "What's happening is people take their keys with them as if they're in a parking lot. This is not a parking lot. We really need people to move their cars," the actor told KTLA 5.
Other stars who live in Pacific Palisades include Reese Witherspoon, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Steven Spielberg and Michael Keaton.
Tom Hanks' son, Chet, wrote on his Instagram Story on Tuesday, "The neighborhood I grew up in is burning to the ground. Pray for Palisades."
Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra has also been actively sharing updates on her Instagram stories.
Hailing the rescuers, she wrote, "A huge shout out to the incredibly brave first responders. Thank you for working tirelessly overnight and continuing to help families affected."
Amid this crisis, the unveiling of the Oscar nominations were pushed back until January 19, to give Academy members affected by fires more time to cast their ballots this week.

Google Pixel owners can now update their devices to the latest January 2025 patch, the company announced via its support page on Tuesday. The update, which is rolled out for the Pixel 9 series and several other older models running Android 15, brings fixes for issues related to audio, camera, display, graphics, and user interface. Further, it also includes patches for security vulnerabilities with moderate severity as well as functional improvements.

A Google community manager detailed the features of the Pixel update for January 2025 with the build number AP4A.250105.002 on the company's support page. As per the changelog, the patch fixes an audio issue which caused audio delay and stability problems in certain apps on the Pixel 9 series, the Pixel 8 series and the Pixel Tablet.

Pixel 9 series users reported two other bugs — a camera stability error when switching to a connected camera under certain conditions and flashing lines on the screen in certain conditions. Both of them have been rectified following the update. It also fixes a theme issue which caused problems in the Pixel launcher to display themed icon colour in certain conditions.
Apart from bug fixes, the changelog states that the January 2025 update also bundles security patches for several common vulnerabilities and exposures (CVE). This includes a fix for a vulnerability with the identifier CVE-2023-33111 which is reported in a Qualcomm audio component. Two other vulnerabilities, CVE-2023-28583 and CVE-2023-33038, were discovered in Qualcomm closed-source components and have been patched with the update. All of them were listed as moderate in severity.
Gadgets 360 staff members can confirm that the update has started to roll out. It is approximately 92MB in size on the Google Pixel 9 but may differ depending on the model. The following devices are eligible to receive it:
Veteran journalist, adman, filmmaker Pritish Nandy died of a cardiac arrest at 73 in his Mumbai house on January 8. The last rites were performed last evening. Pritish Nandy's dear friend Anupam Kher was among the firsts who shared the heartbreaking news on his social media feed.
Kareena Kapoor, who acted in Pritish Nandy's production Chameli (2004), remembered him with an emotional post. Kareena shared a throwback picture with the producer from the sets of the film. She shared a folded hand emoji and a heart emoji along with it.
Director Hansal Mehta also remembered him with endearing words. He wrote, "Sad, sad news. My most personal work has lost one of its greatest patrons. You lived well Mr Nandy. Will miss you terribly. Deepest condolences to the entire family."

Sharing fun-filled pictures from the set, Sayani wrote, "The youngest guy in the room, the most articulate and brilliant. Always smiling, always warm and with that glint in his eyes. He loved a good conversation. He loved Bong women. And I knew he loved me. He would always express his love & never shied away from appreciating the people around him. There are very few people who are this magnetic."
"An absolute stalwart. A true visionary. A rock star feminist who has created some of the most iconic women characters for cinema," Sayani added.
She signed off the post with these words, "I thought of him a lot when his very close friend Mr. Ratan Tata passed away recently. How he must be holding up. Cannot believe he left us so soon.The head of our family just left us. Hasn't sunk in.I am grateful for his grace, wisdom & the moments spent under his light. A deep deep loss."
The Sky Is Pink director Shonali Bose also remembered him. "Pritish da - I am utterly shocked and heartbroken that you left so suddenly. We were just to meet for the release of our Ziddi Girls. You were the BEST producer - so warm and supportive. I had to just pick up the phone on you and you gave me what I needed."
"One of the most thrilling moments in my life was when you called after watching the Raatrani edit and you said - it's "Ashadhoron". (Outstanding). I will miss you dearly. You have left an IMMENSE legacy. I'm so grateful for my time with you and the work we did together - Modern Love Mumbai and Ziddi Girls. Gone too soon," she wrote.
Pritish Nandy wore many hats. He wrote around 40 books of poetry in English and translated poems from Bengali, Urdu, and Punjabi into English.
