Shah Rukh Khan Reveals He Quit Smoking: "I Thought I Won't Feel So Breathless..."

Shah Rukh Khan, who used to be a chain smoker at one point of time, revealed he has already quit the habit. Shah Rukh Khan spent his 59th birthday at an event organised by his fan clubs in Bandra on Saturday. In a video from the event shared by his fan club on X, Shah Rukh can be heard saying: "There's a good thing - I'm not smoking anymore, guys. I thought I won't feel so breathless after quitting smoking, but I still feel it (the side-effects). Inshallah, that will also get ok." In 2012, the actor was criticized for smoking in public during an IPL match between his team Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals. Later, he escaped with a paltry fine of Rs 100 after he pleaded guilty before a court in Jaipur. Take a look:

At the same event, Shah Rukh Khan hosted an Ask SRK session. When a fan asked him about the lesson he has learnt from his children, Shah Rukh Khan, in his trademark witty style, shared anecdotes from his birthday morning. "I woke up late today because there was a dinner last night. So I woke up and went to spend some time with my little one... he was having his own issues. His I-Pad was not working. Then after that my daughter had a problem. She had some outfits which were not looking okay. The fitting was all wrong. Then my elder son..." Needless to say, Shah Rukh Khan's minute details set the mood of the event and impressed the audience as always.

Shah Rukh Khan continued, "So, I learn from my family. Jitne bachche hote hein, utna patience aadmi mein badta hain (The more kids you have, the more patient you become)! So this is the learning I carry from my home to my work. Which is a lot of patience, lot of love, lot of care. Kisi ki koi bhi chiz naa chal rahi ho toh main usko theek karta hoon. Shooting pe, kaam pe, office pe (Whoever needs to fix things, I am there for them. At work, home or office). I think patience is the one thing that I have learnt from my family."

Shah Rukh Khan has had a stellar comeback last year. He delivered box office hits like Pathaan and Jawan. Dunki received a lukewarm response from the audience.

Singham Again Box Office Collection Day 2: Ajay Devgn's Film Roars With Rupees 85 Crore

Singham Again is already close to hitting the ₹100-crore mark at the box office. On Day 3, the Rohit Shetty directorial minted ₹41.5 crore, as per a report from Sacnilk. The action-packed film recorded an overall 60.40% Hindi occupancy on its first Saturday. So far, it has collected a total of ₹85 crore in the domestic market. Directed by Rohit Shetty, Singham Again features Ajay Devgn, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Tiger Shroff and Jackie Shroff. The project has been jointly bankrolled by Jio Studios, Rohit Shetty Productions and Reliance Entertainment. Singham Again clashed at the box office with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which features Kartik Aaryan, Triptii Dimri, Madhuri Dixit and Vidya Balan.

On Saturday, Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh posted a note on X (formerly Twitter) to share the opening day box office figures of Singham Again. He wrote, “BRAND 'SINGHAM' GROWS MIGHTIER...#SinghamAgain ROARS on Day 1... Takes a FANTASTIC start across the board... Achieves career-best *Day 1* numbers for both #AjayDevgn and #RohitShetty. The Brand #Singham cements and solidifies its status, with #SinghamAgain surpassing the second installment [#SinghamReturns - ₹ 32.09 cr] by a good margin, despite clash with another major franchise [#BhoolBhulaiyaa3].”

Singham Again is the third instalment of the Singham series. The first movie, titled Singham, was released in 2011, followed by Singham Returns in 2014. The franchise is part of Rohit Shetty's cop universe, which also includes Simmba, Sooryavanshi and Indian Police Force.

On the work front, the Barbie star has two films at hand - A Big Bold Beautiful Journey and Queen of the Air.

Barbie, one of the biggest hits of 2023, featured Margot Robbie in the eponymous role with Ryan Gosling as Ken, and America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell in supporting roles. The film is a modern adaptation of the Barbie-myth. In the film, Barbie discovers the real world with the real problems of patriarchy once she steps out of her dreamy homeland.

Gauri Khan treated her fans and all Shah Rukh Khan fans to the best pictures from the superstar's intimate birthday celebrations last night. On Saturday evening, Gauri Khan shared two images from Shah Rukh Khan's birthday celebrations. In the first image, Shah Rukh Khan can be seen cutting a birthday cake. Shah Rukh Khan's birthday is no less than a festival for fans across generations. However, the superstar didn't make a special appearance at the balcony of his bunglow Mannat this year. However, he spent the day with fans at  a special event and shared personal details with them. Fans from different parts of the world assembled in front of his residence to catch a glimpse of the superstar. A fan from Jharkhand has been waiting outside SRK's house for the past 95 days to meet him. NDTV's Abira Dhar had an interaction with this dedicated fan, who closed his computer centre and travelled all the way to Mumbai, determined to meet the actor. The fan said, "Gaon me mera centre hai computer ka, usko band kar ke Shah Rukh sir se milne ke liye aya hu. Aur jab tak nahi milunga, tab tak yaha se mai nahi jaunga. [I have a computer centre in my village, which I have closed to come and meet Shah Rukh sir. And I would not leave here until I meet him.]

When asked why he believes Shah Rukh would meet him, the fan confidently replied, "Vo humse nahi, mai unse milunga. [It is not about him meeting me, I will meet him.]"

Apple to Invest Up to $1.5 Billion in Globalstar for Satellite Coverage Expansion

Apple will invest up to $1.5 billion in Globalstar to fund the expansion of its iPhone communication services, the satellite provider said in a regulatory filing on Friday.

Shares of Globalstar jumped over 30%, while Apple was down around 1.4% a day after it forecast tepid quarterly revenue growth.

Under the funding agreement, Apple will commit $1.1 billion in cash and also purchase 20% equity in Globalstar for $400 million. The satellite company said it will use a portion of the funds to pay down debt.

The move is another in a line of partnerships between space firms and mobile service providers looking to provide satellite-based connectivity to customers in regions with limited network access.

Globalstar also said it will allocate 85% of its network capacity to Apple. The deal is expected to close on Tuesday.

The iPhone maker partnered with Globalstar in 2022 for a feature that would allow Apple users to send emergency messages from remote areas.

The actors shared their daughter's first picture on Instagram on Friday, on the auspicious occasion of Diwali, and also revealed her name in the same post. "Dua Padukone Singh," Ranveer and Deepika wrote in a joint post. In the picture, they offered a glimpse of her tiny feet in a red ethnic outfit. The newest parents in town also explained the meaning of their daughter's name in the same post, and added the reason behind why she was named so.

As soon as the post was shared, it was widely circulated and became viral in no time. Fans, friends, co-actors and colleagues from the fraternity filled the comments section with love. Alia Bhatt shared dropped a bunch of heart emojis, Saif Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan's older sister Saba Pataudi wrote, "Beautiful, Mahsha'Allah," Zoya Akhtar wrote, "Beautiful," and added a heart emoji and Ram Charan's wife Upasana Konidela wrote, "Cutest." Internet users too showered love on the picture. 

The Singham Again actors had shared the official announcement of their daughter Dua's birth in an adorable post on Instagram that read, "Welcome baby girl. 8-9-2024. Deepika & Ranveer." That post went viral too, with a lot of love from friends, actors and fans. Sonam Kapoor wrote, "Congratulations you both! How wonderful," while her husband Anand Ahuja wrote, "Many many many congratulations to you both and your families. Sending lots of love and happiness to the newest addition! Cant wait to meet her soon but till then hope everyone gets lots of time with her and as much rest as possible!." Among the others who wished were Alia Bhatt, Aditi Rao Hydari, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and even Hollywood actor Will Smith.

Walt Disney Forms Business Unit to Coordinate Use of AI, Augmented Reality

Walt Disney is forming a new group to coordinate the company's use of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and mixed reality, as the media giant explores applications across its film, television and theme park divisions.

The newly formed Office of Technology Enablement will be led by Jamie Voris, the film studio's chief technology officer who spearheaded development of Disney's app for the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality device, an email seen on Friday by Reuters showed. Eddie Drake will succeed Voris as the studio's CTO.

"The pace and scope of the advances in AI and XR (extended reality) are profound and will continue to impact consumer experiences, creative endeavors and our businesses for years to come - making it critical that Disney explore the exciting opportunities and navigate the potential risks," Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Alan Bergman wrote.

"The creation of this group underscores our dedication to doing that."

Bergman noted the unit will focus on fast-moving areas of technology, such as AI and mixed reality, which blends the physical and digital worlds. It will not centralize work on these projects, but rather, ensure the various projects around the company fit with its broader strategy.

Voris will report to Bergman. The Office of Technology Enablement, which launches with a core leadership team, is expected to grow to about 100 employees, a person familiar with the matter said.

Reuters first reported Disney had formed a task force to study artificial intelligence and how it could be applied across the entertainment conglomerate.

Various divisions within Disney are exploring applications for augmented reality, which places digital elements into the real world; virtual reality, which immerses the user in a simulated environment; and mixed reality, which combines both.

Disney has been building expertise across the organization to capitalize on the emerging technology.

For example, Kyle Laughlin, a Disney veteran with a background in augmented and virtual reality and AI, returned to the company in March as senior vice president of research and development for Walt Disney Imagineering, the creative force behind Disney's theme park attractions. He briefly left Disney in 2019 to lead Amazon's Alexa Gadgets division.

As Meta and Snap unveiled a new generation of lightweight glasses that provide consumers a fashionable alternative to bulky VR goggles, Disney has been quietly assembling a team focused on how best to harness the technology to bring new experiences to the company's theme parks and consumers' homes, seven sources told Reuters.

Tech companies have sold about 1.7 million AR/VR headsets so far this year, data from market research firm IDC showed. Meta is still the clear market leader, with a 60.5% market share, but is starting to face pressure in the space from competitors like Sony, Apple and ByteDance.

Google also has been signaling this year that it may return to the AR/VR market.
