New Study Uses Math to Decode Creativity and Idea Formation

A new research study has examined the mathematical principles governing creativity and innovation, shedding light on how novel ideas emerge. By analysing data across different domains, researchers have identified patterns that could refine the understanding of how individuals and societies generate new concepts. The study investigates two types of novelty—discovering an entirely new element and forming unique combinations of existing elements. The findings could be crucial in fields such as science, literature, and technology, where innovation plays a vital role in advancement.

Mathematical Framework for Creativity

According to the study published in Nature Communications, researchers introduced a framework to model how new ideas emerge. Led by Professor Vito Latora from Queen Mary University of London, the team focused on higher-order novelties—combinations of familiar elements that create something new. Speaking to Phys.org, Prof. Latora stated that the study is part of a broader effort to understand the mechanisms underlying creativity, aiming to identify factors that contribute to the success of ideas, products, and technologies.

A mathematical model called Edge-Reinforced Random Walk with Triggering (ERRWT) was developed to simulate how people discover and combine elements. Unlike traditional random walks, which assume equal probability for each step, ERRWT strengthens frequently used connections and triggers new links when novel combinations occur. This process mirrors real-world discovery, where repeated exposure to certain elements increases the likelihood of making new associations.

Analysing Patterns Across Domains

The research team applied the ERRWT model to three distinct datasets—music listening habits from Last.fm, literary texts from Project Gutenberg, and scientific publications from Semantic Scholar. The findings revealed that while individuals might have similar rates of discovering new elements, the sequences in which they arrange them differ significantly.

For music listeners, certain users developed unique listening patterns despite discovering the same number of new songs. In literature, writers frequently created new word pairings rather than introducing entirely new words. Scientific papers, particularly titles, demonstrated a higher tendency for novel word combinations compared to narrative texts.

Predicting Innovation with Heaps' Law

The study also highlighted that the process of novelty creation follows Heaps' law, a power-law relationship describing how new elements and combinations emerge over time. By applying this principle, researchers could predict different rates of innovation across disciplines. The results indicated that while some fields prioritise the discovery of individual elements, others focus on recombining existing ones in unique ways.

Implications for Future Research

The findings suggest that understanding how creative processes unfold could help refine strategies for fostering innovation. Prof. Latora noted that studying novelty creation is essential for identifying factors that contribute to the rise and decline of trends, products, and ideas. Future research aims to expand the model by incorporating a social component, which could provide insights into how external influences shape creative developments.

Researchers Spot Unusual, Overmassive Globular Clusters in Ultra-Diffuse Galaxy FCC 224

A team of researchers has observed an ultra-diffuse galaxy, FCC 224, uncovering an unusual system of globular clusters. The galaxy, located in the Fornax cluster approximately 65 million light-years away, has been found to host luminous and overmassive globular clusters. The study, conducted using the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and supported by spectroscopic data from the Keck Cosmic Web Imager (KCWI), has provided insights into the formation and evolution of this galaxy and its star clusters. The findings indicate a single-burst star formation history, with the globular clusters displaying unique characteristics in terms of mass, size, and brightness distribution.

Overmassive Globular Cluster System Identified

According to the study published on the arXiv pre-print server, FCC 224 is a quiescent ultra-diffuse galaxy estimated to be around 10 billion years old. It has a major axis effective radius of roughly 6,160 light-years and a stellar mass of approximately 200 million solar masses. Observations have revealed that the galaxy hosts 12 exceptionally bright globular clusters, with some showing absolute magnitudes around -9.0 mag. The total mass of these clusters is estimated to be 3.8 million solar masses, accounting for nearly 2 percent of the galaxy's stellar mass, which is significantly higher than expected for a galaxy of this size.

Distinctive Features of the Globular Clusters

As reported by phys.org, the study found that the globular clusters in FCC 224 closely resemble the galaxy's diffuse starlight, exhibiting a narrow color range and lacking a significant color gradient. This suggests that the galaxy underwent a single, intense star formation period. Researchers also noted that these clusters have relatively small sizes, with half-light radii ranging between 7.8 and 15.6 light-years. The globular cluster population appears to be radially mass-segregated, with brighter clusters concentrated toward the galaxy's center.

Implications and Future Research

Findings from the study indicate that FCC 224 possesses an unusual globular cluster system with characteristics that challenge conventional expectations. The research team has suggested that further theoretical studies will be needed to explain the origins of these distinctive properties and the role they play in the galaxy's evolution.

First Mouse with Two Fathers Thrives into Adulthood, Marking New Scientific Milestone

A major development in stem cell science has been achieved with the creation of a bi-paternal mouse, marking a significant step in reproductive biology. Scientists have successfully engineered a mouse with two male biological parents, which managed to survive into adulthood. This research, conducted by a team of stem cell experts, has addressed longstanding barriers in unisexual mammalian reproduction by modifying specific imprinting genes. The findings, which could have implications for regenerative medicine, highlight the challenges and potential future applications of the technology.

Genetic Modifications Enable Bi-Paternal Development

According to the study published in Cell Stem Cell, led by Wei Li of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the team focused on overcoming imprinting-related challenges that previously prevented embryos with same-sex genetic origins from developing fully. Modifications were made to 20 imprinting genes using techniques such as frameshift mutations, gene deletions, and regulatory region edits. These changes allowed some bi-paternal embryos to survive to birth and, in rare cases, reach adulthood.

Co-corresponding author Qi Zhou of CAS explained to phys.org, that imprinting genes have been identified as a key obstacle in unisexual reproduction. Despite previous attempts using ovarian organoids derived from male stem cells, imprinting abnormalities caused severe developmental defects. By directly editing these genes, the research team improved embryonic viability and the stability of pluripotent stem cells.

Survival and Reproductive Challenges Remain

As per reports, only 11.8 percent of the engineered embryos developed to birth, and those that survived exhibited developmental abnormalities, reduced lifespan, and sterility. Guan-Zheng Luo of Sun Yat-sen University, a co-corresponding author, stated that imprinting abnormalities have been confirmed as the primary factor preventing unisexual reproduction in mammals.

Despite the limitations, this approach has demonstrated the potential for refining stem cell-based therapies and improving cloning efficiency. Researchers plan to expand the study to larger mammals, though substantial challenges remain due to differences in imprinting gene patterns across species.

Astronomers Discover 19 New Quasars Using DESI Legacy Surveys Data

A significant discovery has been made in the field of astronomy, with 19 new quasars, including strongly-lensed, dual, and projected types, identified through analysis of data from the DESI Legacy Surveys photometry catalog. This breakthrough highlights the potential of quasar observations in furthering our understanding of the universe. These objects, known for their extreme luminosity and powered by supermassive black holes, have long been pivotal for research into astrophysics and cosmology. Observations were conducted at the Palomar Observatory in California.

Findings of the DESI Legacy Surveys

According to the study led by Zizhao He of the Purple Mountain Observatory, the investigation confirmed two strongly-lensed quasars, six dual quasars, and 11 projected quasars. Observations were carried out on October 15–16, 2023, using the P200/DBSP instrument. The study noted that the lensed quasars, designated J0746+1344 and J2121-0826, were observed at redshifts of 3.1 and 2.39, respectively. J0746+1344 displayed a unique configuration, with the lensing galaxy positioned beside the brightest image—an anomaly compared to typical observations.

Dual and Projected Quasars

As reported by phys.org, the six dual quasars identified showed redshifts ranging from 0.59 to 3.28, with separations between their components varying from 50,300 to 73,500 light years. Among these, J1929+6009 stood out due to a remarkably small redshift difference of less than 0.0001 and a projected separation of 62,800 light years.

The 11 projected quasars demonstrated separations spanning 35,700 to 123,400 light years. One such system, J0422+0047, was previously thought to be a gravitationally-lensed quasar system, though further analysis indicated a chance alignment of projected quasars with an intervening galaxy, complicating its classification.

Implications of the Discovery

This research underscores the importance of advanced observational techniques in uncovering unique cosmic phenomena. By analysing the behaviour, redshifts, and configurations of these quasars, astronomers aim to expand their knowledge of the universe's structure and the dynamics of supermassive black holes.

Google Pixel 9a's Higher Storage Variants to Reportedly Cost More than Last Year’s Model

Google Pixel 9a is rumoured to be in development as the most affordable option in the Pixel 9 series. However, it may not be as cheap as last year. A new report suggests that some variants of the phone could be more expensive compared to their Pixel 8a counterparts. This decision by Google is said to affect the pricing strategy of the purported Pixel 9a in Canada and the US. Notably, this development comes after the entire spec-sheet of the phone was leaked in December.

Google Pixel 9a Price Hike

According to an Android Headlines report, the Google Pixel 9a's price will start at $499 (roughly Rs. 43,000) in the US for the 128GB storage model, which is the same as Pixel 8a's starting price. However, that may not be the case for the phone's other variants. The 256GB variant of the Google Pixel 9a is reported to cost $40 (roughly Rs. 3,500) more compared to the launch price of Pixel 8a with the same configuration.

Thus, the phone could now start at $599 (roughly Rs. 52,000), creating a whopping $100 (roughly Rs. 9,000) gap between the two models. The report speculates that Google's pricing of the Pixel 9a in Canada could be more "flexible".

This move is expected to bring Google's pricing strategy for the Pixel 9a at par with its flagship models. The Pixel 9 series, launched at the Made by Google 2024 event in August, costs $100 more for the 256GB storage variants.

Google Pixel 9a Specifications

Previous reports indicate that the purported Google Pixel 9a will sport a 6.3-inch Actua display, with an adaptive refresh rate ranging between 60Hz and 120Hz. It is expected to be powered by a Tensor G4 chip which also powers the flagship models, along with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage.

For optics, Google will reportedly equip the Pixel 9a with a 48-megapixel primary camera, complimented by a 13-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens and a 13-megapixel selfie shooter. It is also rumoured to deliver considerably improved battery life than its predecessor, with a bigger 5,000mAh battery.

Tata Electronics Acquires 60 Percent Stake in iPhone Maker Pegatron Technology India

Tata Electronics Pvt Ltd (TEPL) on Friday announced the acquisition of a controlling 60 per cent stake in Taiwanese contract manufacturer Pegatron's India unit, cementing its position as a key player in the Indian electronics manufacturing sector.

The financial details of the transactions were not disclosed.

Pegatron India is a subsidiary of Taiwanese Pegatron Corporation, engaged in the provision of contract-based electronics manufacturing services (EMS) to global giants like Apple.

The latest deal is expected to strengthen Tata's position as an Apple supplier and bolster its iPhone manufacturing plans.

Announcing the acquisition of a 60 per cent stake, Tata Electronics said Pegatron Technology India will undergo rebranding to reflect its new ownership structure and business direction while continuing to deliver high-quality electronics manufacturing services.

The latest move by the electronics arm of the salt-to-software conglomerate follows its acquisition of Wistron's India operations (based in Narsapura, Karnataka) less than a year ago in March 2024.

In fact, in his New Year message to employees, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran asserted that with global supply chains continuing to shift in India's favour as the world's largest businesses strike a new balance between resilience and efficiency, manufacturing has the potential to transform the country's economy.

Chandrasekaran termed it as "a new manufacturing golden age for India".

On Friday, Tata Electronics CEO and MD Randhir Thakur said the acquisition of a majority stake in Pegatron Technology India fits into Tata Electronics' strategy of growing its manufacturing footprint.

"We look forward to a new era of AI, digital, and technology-led manufacturing as we bring up these new facilities and expand our operations in India," Thakur said.

In addition to TEPL acquiring a majority stake in Pegatron Technology India, the two companies will work on integrating their teams to work seamlessly.

Tata Group has been scripting an aggressive blueprint for electronics and semiconductor manufacturing.

Tata Electronics is building India's first Fab in Dholera, Gujarat, with a total investment of Rs 91,000 crore. In addition, another Rs 27,000 crore will be invested in a greenfield facility in Jagiroad, Assam, for the assembly and testing of semiconductor chips. Together, these facilities will produce semiconductor chips for applications across automotive, mobile devices, artificial intelligence (AI), and other key segments to serve customers globally.

Tata Group will create 5 lakh manufacturing jobs in the next five years across sectors such as semiconductor, electric vehicles, battery and related industries, Chandrasekaran said in October last year.

Tata Sons' top honcho had asserted that India cannot achieve the goals of being a developed nation if the country cannot create manufacturing jobs.

"Priyanka Chopra, Guneet Monga Take Credit For Anuja Without Even Partaking in It": Vinta Nanda On Credit War Over Oscars

Film producer Vinta Nanda recently voiced her concerns about the "flawed" system surrounding the Oscars' nomination process on Instagram. She criticised the practice of curators being credited with Oscar nominations and awards, while the efforts of the actual artists and producers behind the films remain overshadowed.

Without naming any specific individuals, she expressed her frustration, writing, "Systems are so flawed now. Curators walk away with the Oscar nominations and awards as producers and the struggle of the artists and their producers is completely eclipsed. What kind of a world are we living in?"

Her post quickly garnered attention, including from filmmaker-actor Ananth Mahadevan, who accused "influential ones" with the right "connections and networking" of benefiting from this system.

Vinta's comments appeared to be a pointed reference to the film Anuja, which earned a nomination for Best Live Action Short at the 97th Academy Awards

In an interview with News18 Showsha, Vinta elaborated on her thoughts, saying, "The producers of Anuja are featured nowhere near Guneet Monga (Kapoor) and Priyanka Chopra (Jonas). Theirs are the first two names featured in the list of producers. I'm sure Anuja is a brilliant film much like The Elephant Whisperers. But it's becoming a norm year after year that after a film gets made, well-recognizable names with great network suddenly come and become producers."

She continued, "What they're actually doing is curating and becoming part and parcel of the profits and business of the film. Technically, they aren't the producers. They shouldn't be going up on the stage and collecting those awards. People involved with marketing, taking the film from the producers - after it's ready - to festivals and lobbying, get credit for the film, which they haven't even partaken in. They should be making sure that the team that has actually produced the film takes the honour."

She clarified that she wasn't specifically blaming Guneet Monga or Priyanka Chopra. "No offense to them because they're brilliant in their own right and have done stellar work in their lives. They're part of a system that's so flawed. Why should festivals be seeking their approval? They think the media won't give them coverage if a Priyanka Chopra doesn't come on top of the product? I've put my post questioning this. What's happening in the bargain is that real writers, directors and producers don't come in notice," Vinta stated.

Vinta also raised concerns about a potential "conflict of interest" in the case of Anuja's Oscar nomination and Guneet Monga's involvement with the Academy.

She explained, "The Oscars share a symbiotic relationship with Guneet. She has done some great work and she has brought home the Oscars. Even for The Elephant Whisperers, she only came into it at the editing stage. She didn't have anything to do with it till the first cut was already ready. She was able to bridge the gap between the filmmaker and the Oscars."

Vinta spoke about the need for introspection by both the Oscars organizers and Guneet regarding their role in the system. She questioned the fairness of the current process, saying, "What the Oscars organisers and Guneet need to introspect is, if this is a good thing that they're doing. What if certain films don't come to Guneet's notice? A producer already making films may not be the right conduit because there may be biases there. I'm sure she or Priyanka isn't biased and is very fair but it's not the right way to go. As it is, the lesser names are where the material is because they're the ones to be actually making a film."

Finally, Vinta reiterated that this approach often places undue pressure on influential figures like Guneet and Priyanka. "Awards, festivals and funders need to find the right talent. There must be 20-30 other good films in the market, which they don't even know exist. They can't say that Guneet likes a film and so, I also like it. It's an unhealthy kind of a space we're getting into and it's going to be a harmful and unhealthy ecosystem for creative storytellers to exist. The pressure is going to be so much. It's so oppressive already," she concluded.

Sky Force Box Office Collection Day 1: Akshay Kumar's Big Comeback With Double-Digit Opening After A String Of Flops

Sky Force has come as a much-needed relief for Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, marking his most successful movie release in years. The film opened to solid double-digit collections.

According to Sacnilk, Sky Force earned Rs 11.25 crore (net) on its opening day. The movie was made on a relatively modest budget of Rs 160 crore.

The last big hit in Akshay Kumar's career was Sooryavanshi (2021), directed by Rohit Shetty. It was made on a budget of Rs 160 crore and earned Rs 293 crore globally.

His last few releases, including Khel Khel Mein, Sarfira, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Mission Raniganj, Selfiee, Ram Setu, Raksha Bandhan, Samrat Prithviraj, and Bachchhan Paandey, all failed to make a mark at the box office.

Akshay's last major release, Singham Again, raked in Rs 372.4 crore globally, but that movie was led by Ajay Devgn and featured an ensemble cast, with Akshay appearing in a cameo. Additionally, he made a guest appearance in Stree 2, which performed well, earning Rs 857.15 crore worldwide.

Since the film's trailer launch, Sky Force has drawn comparisons to Fighter, which stars Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone. Fighter was also released around Republic Day last year and made Rs 22.5 crore on its opening day. Fighter, with a production budget of Rs 250 crore, went on to become a success, grossing Rs 358.83 crore worldwide.

Sky Force is based on the untold story of India's first and deadliest airstrike, showcasing the events of the 1965 India-Pakistan War.

Veer Pahariya makes his acting debut as IAF officer T Vijaya, who goes missing in action during the war, while Akshay Kumar plays his fellow officer, KO Ahuja, who embarks on a mission to find him.

The film also features Nimrat Kaur and Sara Ali Khan in important roles. Sky Force is directed by Sandeep Kelwani and Abhishek Kapur.

Samsung Official Teases Galaxy S25 Edge Launch Timeline at Galaxy Unpacked: Report

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge could launch in the next few months, according to a report. The South Korean technology conglomerate launched the Galaxy S25 series at the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event in San Jose, California on Wednesday. Alongside, it also debuted a new device with a thinner profile than its flagship models, bringing back its ‘Edge' branding and giving it the moniker Galaxy S25 Edge. However, the phone was only teased and no information about its price or specifications was provided.

Now, a new report suggests that a company representative might have officially teased Galaxy S25 Edge's launch timeline.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Launch Timeline

Citing an unnamed Samsung representative speaking at the end of the showcase, 9to5Google reports that the Galaxy S25 Slim will debut “around April”. This reasonably corroborates previously tipped launch schedules which hinted towards an April or May unveiling.

Not much is known about the device either. At Galaxy Unpacked, Samsung showcased internal components of the phone in a teaser video, suggesting the inclusion of a dual camera unit with vertically stacked lenses at the back. The Galaxy S25 Edge is said to pack a much slimmer profile than its flagship counterparts in the Galaxy S25 series.

While other specifications remain unknown, it is widely touted to be Samsung's answer to the rumoured iPhone 17 Air, which could debut this year as part of the iPhone 17 lineup. The phone is likely to be positioned between the Galaxy S25 Plus and Galaxy S25 Ultra models in the company's lineup.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Specifications (Expected)

Past reports suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge may be equipped with a 6.66-inch display, similar to the Galaxy S25+ model. The phone is said to sport a 6.4mm thin profile without the camera unit, while it may measure 8.3mm in thickness around the camera module.

For optics, it could sport a dual rear camera setup headlined by a 200-megapixel primary camera. The Galaxy S25 Edge is believed to be powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset which also powers the flagship Galaxy S25 models. It may be paired with 12GB of RAM as standard.

Sky Force Review: Akshay Kumar In A Patchy, Inconsistent Film

A high-potential but medium-yield genre exercise that shines a light on two heroes of the 1965 India-Pakistan war, Sky Force picks broad details from the pages of military history and fictionalises them with an eye on maximising dramatic impact.

The heightened rendition of true events works only intermittently. Its narrative trajectory does not send the film soaring into the stratosphere nor does it help it land with the kind of force one would expect from a war movie of this scale and nature. But there is just enough in here for the film not to be deemed a failed sortie.

If anything, Sky Force, directed by Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Anil Kapur, comes into its own only in the second half. It devotes an entire hour to a segment designed to showcase a squadron of fighter pilots. Their exploits and exchanges are drowned out by the din of a gratuitously loud, persistent background score and the never-ending roar of the flying machines caught in dogfights.

Sky Force tends to miss the grain for the chaff in the first half. It loses its way in a surfeit of computer-generated air combat sequences. In this exhausting stretch, it displays little sense of what is important to the story. Most of it is either overly blurry or unduly blustery.

The script does dwell upon the mentor-protege relationship between an intrepid Indian Air Force officer Om Ahuja (Akshay Kumar) and a young, enthusiastic fighter pilot T. Krishna Vijaya (debutant Veer Pahariya) who is prone to paying heed more to his heart than to the orders of his superiors. It stops short of delving deeper into the clash of personalities and two conflicting approaches to the call of duty.

It chooses far less significant things - the affected swag of the two men, for instance - to focus on. The human story centred on the families of the two fighter pilots is granted little space until the pregnant wife of one of the two men finds herself face to face with the human cost of war.

Scripted by Kewlani, Aamil Keeyan Khan and Niren Bhatt, Sky Force wastes one half of its runtime on sound and fury minus the excitement. The visceral thrust falls flat because it isn't sufficiently tempered with elements that could sharpen the edges and help the film cut deep.

Once the deafening hurly-burly of the aerial action is behind it, Sky Force doubles down to piecing together the story of a young fighter pilot's disappearance in enemy territory during an Indian Air Force (IAF) retaliatory mission to strike at the heart of Pakistan's air power in 1965.

Akshay Kumar, cast as a tough and brave IAF officer charged with leading Squadron 1, the force's oldest squadron, mutates into a sleuth determined to find out what happened to the exceptionally skilled and maverick pilot he groomed and took under his wings.

The search and its outcome lend the film much-needed emotional traction. However, it is way too late in coming, which takes much away from the overall upshot of the big reveal at the end of the film. No revelation can take us by surprise because the true story that has inspired< Sky Force is in the public domain. A better build-up would have made a difference.

The first half suffers the ill effects of abysmal sound design and mixing. The sonic boom of fighter planes taking off and piercing the air and the excessive use of background music make words and conversations either completely inaudible or unintelligible.

What one gathers amid the relentless cacophony is that a band of men known as "The Tigers" - that is the name that the Squadron went by as a collective - are tasked with avenging a stealthy night time attack by Pakistan on two Indian airbases.

It is seen as an unequal contest. In 1965, Pakistan had supersonic fighter planes supplied by the Americans. India's subsonic bombers were markedly inferior in efficacy and speed. That did not stop Squadron 1 from launching a quick and precise attack on the key Pakistani airbase in Sargodha to neutralise the nation's entire fleet of Starstriker F-104s (Lockheed Starfighters with a fictional name).

But before the film stages this historic airstrike, independent India's first-ever on enemy territory, it makes its way through several other Dassault Mystere sorties designed to show the audience that it isn't the firepower of the fighter planes, but the fire in the bellies of the men flying them, that determines success.

Sky Force expends too much time trying to substantiate that adage beyond any doubt. That purpose is served but little that the characters say to each other rises above the noise levels.

Amid the bombast, one gathers that the Ahuja (Akshay Kumar) has a wife (Nimrat Kaur) and a pilot-brother he lost in combat. Flying Officer Vijaya's (Veer Pahariya) wife is pregnant. The couple is confident that the baby will be a girl. If only the women were not as peripheral as they are, Sky Force would have been a different film.

The war film gives way to an investigative drama that sees the protagonist fly across the world for clues and information. The case of a lost pilot forgotten for nearly two decades is reopened and a new chapter is added to the story of the strike on Sargodha.

Sky Force opens in December 1971 in the course of the India-Pakistan war for the liberation of Bangladesh. A veteran Pakistani fighter pilot (Sharad Kelkar) is shot down in Indian territory. The provisions of the Geneva Conventions are invoked and the prisoner of war is treated with utmost respect. "There is honour among enemies," says Wing Commander Ahuja.

These are words we do not hear in Bollywood war movies anymore. By echoing emotions that transcend enmity in military conflict, the film offers a throwback to a gentler time in which in the heat of war and beyond it soldiers held on to their humanity.

In an era in which bellicosity is the rule rather than the exception - a flash or two of standard jingoism creeps in here, too - Sky Force emphasises the dignity of warriors and humans, be they comrades or foes.

Sky Force is patchy, the acting is adequate - Akshay Kumar is obviously the fulcrum around which the rest of the cast revolves - and the quality of the storytelling inconsistent.

The film ends on a high note. Moreover, at 125 minutes, it isn't as punishingly long as such action films usually are. But that certainly need not be the only reason why you might want to watch the film and recommend it to friends.

Seismic Data from NASA’s InSight Might Solve the Mystery of Mars’ Dichotomy

Recent seismic data from NASA's InSight lander could provide answers to a 50-year-old puzzle concerning Mars' unique structure. The planet is divided into the northern lowlands and southern highlands, separated by significant differences in elevation and crust thickness. This phenomenon, referred to as the "Martian dichotomy," has perplexed scientists for decades. Clues from seismic activity suggest ancient processes within the planet's interior may have caused this division, as opposed to external impacts like asteroid collisions.

Insights from Seismic Data

According to a study published in Geophysical Research Letters, seismic waves recorded by InSight were analysed to uncover differences between the planet's hemispheres. Situated near the boundary of the dichotomy, the lander captured how seismic waves traveled through the mantle beneath both the northern and southern regions. Researchers observed that seismic energy dissipated more rapidly in the southern highlands, suggesting the mantle beneath is hotter than in the north.

The study points to ancient tectonic activity on Mars as a possible cause. Scientists believe that movements of tectonic plates in the planet's early history, along with molten rock dynamics, could have shaped the dichotomy. When tectonic activity ceased, Mars transitioned to a "stagnant lid" structure, preserving the dichotomy over time.

Internal Processes or External Impact?

Lead researcher Dr. Benjamin Fernando noted in The Conversation that the findings support the theory of internal processes being responsible for the dichotomy. He explained that magma beneath the southern highlands was likely pushed upwards, while magma in the northern hemisphere sank toward the core. This difference aligns with the observed variations in crust thickness and mantle temperature.

Though the study favours an internal origin, researchers stress the need for additional seismic data and advanced planetary models to confirm these findings. External impacts, such as asteroid collisions, remain a possibility according to recent studies.

Further exploration of Mars' geological history will be critical to definitively solving this enduring mystery.

Hailey Bieber Shares A Pic Of Justin Bieber Amid "Unfollowing On Instagram" Row

Hailey Bieber is clearing the air after claims of husband Justin Bieber unfollowing her on Instagram. The couple are putting on a united front.

Recently, the model, 28, shared a defiant carousel post after her husband Justin Bieber, with whom she shares son Jack, 5 months, claimed someone unfollowed her on his Instagram account, reports ‘People' magazine.

The post included a photo of Justin, 30, sleeping, a snap from their recent Aspen vacation and various images of her Rhode beauty line.

Earlier, Justin shutdown claims that he had unfollowed his wife on Instagram. “Someone went on my account and unfollowed my wife", he wrote on his Instagram Stories. "S*** is getting suss out here”.

As per ‘People', the ‘Baby' singer also shared photos on Instagram on Saturday, January 18, of the pair ice skating during a romantic evening on their recent vacation in Aspen.

"The greatest woman I have and will ever know", he captioned the snap of his wife on his Instagram Stories. This came after Hailey was seen having a ski lesson during the trip.

Back in December, Hailey appeared to respond to critics who claimed her marriage was strained by resharing a TikTok of a user saying, “You're not well, and it's okay”.

“Me to all of you on the internet”, new Mom Hailey wrote over the repost with a hand heart emoji. Rumors of relationship troubles have recently haunted the pair, who tied the knot in 2018. “They laugh at the constant divorce rumors,” a source told ‘People' in November. “It's annoying but just noise”.

Justin has been having an unfollowing spree as he removed Usher, his former manager Scooter Braun and best man Ryan Good. Fans have noticed he is still following Hailey's brand Rhode Beauty on the social media platform.

Just last month, Hailey shared a post about "situations that you hate". She simply wrote: "Me to all of you on the Internet”, alongside a video from content creator eyegotthyme. In the clip, he said: "You're not well and it's OK. You've made a lot of choices. The choices that you made put you in situations that you hate”.

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Event Today: How to Watch Livestream, Expected Announcements

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event will take place later today (January 22) in San Jose, California. It is the company's first launch event of the year where the next generation Galaxy S devices, ubiquitously known as the Galaxy S25 series, are expected to take the stage. Samsung's flagship phones will arrive as the successor to the Galaxy S24 series which debuted on January 17, 2024, and pre-reservations for the devices have already commenced in India ahead of the official release. Additionally, the company may also shed more light on ‘Project Moohan' — its first extended reality (XR) headset that was announced in December.

Here's what to expect from the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event.

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2025 Event: How to Watch

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event will begin at 11.30pm IST (1.00pm EST) on Wednesday, January 22 in San Jose, California. It will be live streamed via Samsung Newsroom, various social media channels as well as the brand's YouTube channel.

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2025 Event: What to Expect

The standout announcement from tonight's event is expected to be the purported Galaxy S25 series. Following the trend of yesteryears, the flagship mobile lineup will likely comprise three devices — the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra. All models are expected to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset with 12GB of RAM as standard and get Dynamic AMOLED 2X screens.

The standard Galaxy S25 model is rumoured to be equipped with a 4,000mAh battery, while the Plus and Ultra variants may feature 4,900mAh and 5,000mAh cells, respectively. The most notable change is speculated to arrive with the Galaxy S25 Ultra. It is reported to ditch the boxy design that has become synonymous with Samsung's ‘Ultra' models in recent years in favour of a more rounded appearance this time around. Meanwhile, the other two models may have an unaltered design.

Customers can pre-reserve the next-generation Galaxy S series smartphone via the company's official India website, Samsung Exclusive Stores, and online and offline retail stores by paying a token amount of Rs. 2,000, which will give them early access to the handset. The Galaxy S25 is expected to be priced at EUR 909 (roughly Rs. 81,000) for the base 128GB variant, while the 256GB variants of the Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25 Ultra may cost EUR 1,159 (roughly Rs. 1,03,500) and EUR 1,459 (roughly Rs. 1,30,300), respectively.

However, that is not it when it comes to hardware launches as the brand is expected to have much more in store. Samsung could unveil a new device, dubbed the Galaxy S25 Slim, which as the name suggests, will have a slimmer form factor than its flagship models.

The brand is also reported to showcase prototypes or teaser video clips of its upcoming XR headset. Dubbed ‘Project Moohan', it has been developed in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm. As per Samsung, the XR headset runs on Android XR platform which is designed to support features that rely on augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and artificial intelligence (AI).

Saif Ali Khan returned home on Tuesday evening (January 21), six days after he was stabbed at his home by an intruder in an attempted burglary case. The actor had undergone two surgeries at the Lilavati hospital to repair the fatal injury.

Pictures of his house, decorated with lights, are already viral. Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan live in the upscale Bandra West area of Mumbai. The couple's home is in a 12-storey building called Satguru Sharan, which they reportedly bought from Satguru Builders in 2013 for Rs 48 crore.

On Tuesday evening, Saif Ali Khan waved at fans and lensmen stationed outside his home. He smiled and showed thumbs up sign as well.

In the early hours of January 16, an intruder barged into Saif Ali Khan's Bandra house and stabbed him six times during a scuffle.

One of the injuries was on his spine and doctors said the knife missed his spinal cord by just 2 mm. The spinal fluid, however, had leaked out and a surgery was conducted to fix this. The actor also underwent plastic surgery for injuries on his arm and neck.

Eliyama Philip, who looks after Saif Ali Khan's sons Taimur and Jeh, has told police that she was the first to spot the intruder.

When Mr Khan asked the intruder what he wanted, he attacked him with a wooden object and the hexa blade, Ms Philip said. "Saif Sir somehow managed to get away from him and we all ran out of the room and pulled the door of the room," she said, adding that everyone then went to the upper floor of their home. The intruder later escaped," the attendant said in her statement to police.

Police have arrested Shariful Islam Shehzad, a Bangladeshi national who illegally entered India and had been living under the false name Bijoy Das, for allegedly breaking into the actor's home and attacking him.
